On 1 September 2025, the Malta Financial Services Authority launched the first volume of the Journal of Financial Supervisors Academy (JFSA), an open-access journal dedicated to advancing dialogue in financial regulation and supervision.

The JFSA is founded on the principle of Where Academia Meets Practice. It provides a platform where academic research and supervisory insights come together, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application. Central to this mission is the Journal’s wide network of supervisors, which forms the backbone of the JFSA. By connecting regulators and academics, the Journal creates a platform for exchanging ideas, sharing best practices, and debating the evolving demands of supervision.

Volume I brought together contributions on digital finance, capital markets, the independence of regulators, and collaboration between national competent authorities and universities. Alongside the publication, a roundtable with leading academics from across Europe highlighted the Journal’s role in building bridges between scholarly research and supervisory practice. Volume I is available to read online through the JFSA website here.

Building on this foundation, the JFSA is now inviting submissions for its second volume, entitled Navigating Complexity: Supervision, Innovation, and Global Uncertainty in Financial Services. This edition seeks to explore how supervisory frameworks adapt in an era of rapid technological change, geopolitical uncertainty, and increasingly fragmented financial systems. Contributions are welcome on themes such as cross-border supervision, the challenges of crypto-assets and passporting, the impact of geopolitical developments on financial stability, the adoption of RegTech, SupTech and artificial intelligence in supervisory practice, and strategies for regulatory simplification and burden reduction.

Publishing with the JFSA offers authors a distinctive opportunity. As an open-access peer-reviewed journal, it provides a global platform where ideas reach a wide readership, and its supervisory network ensures that contributions resonate directly with regulators, academics and practitioners. For scholars, the Journal creates an avenue for research to influence practice while for supervisors and professionals, it offers a forum to share insights and shape regulatory debates on an international scale.

The full call for papers is available here. The deadline for submissions is 15 December 2025, with publication scheduled for June 2026. Manuscripts should be between 2,500 and 10,000 words, written in proficient academic English, and adhere to OSCOLA referencing style. Submissions can be made by email to jfsa@mfsa.mt.

Financial supervision is not static: it must evolve, adapt and anticipate challenges, whether they arise from technological disruption, geopolitical change, or systemic risk. The JFSA is an invitation to join that conversation. We look forward to receiving contributions that will help shape the future of financial supervision at the intersection of academia and practice.
