Call for Submissions

The Graduate Justice Review aims to provide an accessible platform for graduate students and researchers working across the University of Oxford to partake in dialogues on topics related to justice. We welcome diverse perspectives and interdisciplinary approaches to this topic, in the hopes of bringing together researchers from a wide variety of fields. 

Our blog has an open call for contributions including:

  • Essays and Academic Articles: On topics related to justice, whether empirical, theoretical, or grounded in lived experience. 
  • Commentary and Perspective Pieces: Express your ideas on contemporary issues and developments. 
  • Book Reviews: Reviews of recent publications or re-examinations of influential texts through the lens of justice. 

Interested in contributing? Email us with a draft title, short abstract and author bio. You can also submit a final draft if you have developed it already. A member of our editorial team will then contact you to discuss further steps. 

Before you submit, please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • All submissions should be the original contribution of the author and must be proofread for style and accuracy before submission. 
  • Submission format: MS Word, 12pt, double-spaced. 
  • References and sources should be hyperlinked, where possible. For example: 'see work by X' rather than (X, 2026). Please do not use footnotes. 
  • Essays or Academic Articles should be no longer than 4000 words. 
  • Commentary and Perspective Pieces should be no longer than 3000 words. 
  • Book Reviews should be no longer than 2000 words. They must relate to or be evaluated through the lens of justice. 
  • All submissions should include a concise abstract (100-300 words). 
  • Author bios should include full name, institutional/other affiliation, and a short biography (Maximum of 50 words). 
  • Publication on other platforms is permissible only with the permission of the Editorial Team at the GJR and must include a link back to the original blog post.
  • Submissions should not include content that could be considered offensive or derogatory. 
  • We do not accept AI-generated or AI-assisted submissions. 

Contributors are also encouraged to supply the blog with images that can be used for the post listing and/or within the blog post itself. When submitting an image, please keep the following in mind:

  • Images may either be the author's own or obtained from a Creative Commons licensed source. To find images, use the 'Free Use' option of Google (see Guide here), Flickr (restricting your search to Creative Commons photos) or Pixabay (all images are Creative Commons licensed). 
  • Please supply attribution details, i.e., 'Author's Own', or state which kind of Creative Commons License.

Editorial Policies  

  • Editors at the GJR hold the right to edit content, spelling and grammar, upon approval of the author and have the discretion to determine whether a submission will be accepted for publication. 
  • We cannot guarantee that all submissions will be published. Only works that comply with the guidelines set out on this page will be considered for publication. 
  • We are committed to timely responses to all submissions, but during busy times there will be delays. 
  • Copyright and all rights are retained by the author(s). 
  • All publications will be published on the GJR blog site. They may also be shared across our social media platforms.
