The organisers, Dr Andreas Kokkinis (Birmingham) and Dr Federico Lupo-Pasini (Durham), would like to invite abstract submissions for papers to be presented on the 2nd day of the Conference on Financial Law and Regulation to take place in person at UCL, Faculty of Laws, Bentham House in London on Thursday 30th June and Friday 1st July. This conference is supported by a grant from the Society of Legal Scholars and is closely connected to the Banking & Finance section of the SLS of which Dr Kokkinis and Dr Lupo-Pasini are joint convenors.

The purpose of the conference is to gather as many as possible of the most influential scholars in financial law in the UK and Ireland to discuss the evolution of the discipline and the recent legal and regulatory developments in the field. For a very long time the discipline of financial law in the UK has not had an established point of focus that would group the different areas of scholarship under one umbrella, and we’ve never had an annual event where all scholars in the filed could get together. This conference hopes to change this trend and to set the foundations for a more permanent event.

The conference will be organized over two days, it will be in person, and participation will be free of charge. Delegates will have to cover their own travel expenses.

Thursday 30th June – Free roundtable discussion andd Keynote Lecture

There will be five panels covering sustainable finance/ESG, cryptocurrencies and fintech, international finance/monetary and Brexit, private/transactional law of finance, consumer finance and financial crime.

The roundtable discussion will be organized in such a way to enable all the participants to contribute to the discussion.

By invitation only – roundtable discussants will include a mix of UK-based academics,  regulators, and financial law practitioners. Other delegates will have the opportunity to raise questions.

Friday 1st July – Paper presentation and discussion

There is no restrictive theme for the papers. Submissions are welcome on any topic pertaining to financial law and regulation from a UK, EU, or global perspective. Key areas of interest are in line with the topics for the five panels on Day 1.

We hope that you are interested in presenting a paper at our conference. To be considered, please submit your abstract of 400 – 500 words by email to a.kokkinis@bham.ac.uk by Friday 1st April, 23:00 UK time. Submission of a full paper of up to 10,000 words in advance of the conference (by the 17th of June) will be optional. Submissions will be considered by a panel consisting of the organisers, Professor Kern Alexander, and Professor Iris Chiu, and other members to be confirmed in due course. We will confirm whether your paper is accepted by the end of April.
