Border Criminologies Blog Policy on Image Use

The Border Criminologies blog is a platform with wide readership across the globe. We accept submissions for blog posts, as well as audio, video, and images about border control. For blog posts, our contributors will be asked to provide a picture to illustrate their posts once they are ready for publication. Please include the images as separate attachments, as pictures embedded in a word file lose resolution.

For all pictures and visuals, the following guidelines apply:

  • The pictures should be sent in jpeg format and be under 2MB in size.
  • All pictures should respect the dignity of the subject(s). This includes
    • Avoiding stereotypes;
    • Unless otherwise appropriate, avoiding pictures that show people’s face or that would make them otherwise identifiable;
    • Avoiding images of dead or naked bodies;
    • Avoiding pictures that depict instances of instances of extreme violence gratuitously.
  • As much as possible, the pictures provided should be copyrighted or owned by the author of the post. Where this is not possible, the images should not otherwise be protected under copyright outside of Creative Commons (CC) license.
  • As much as possible, image attributions should be given to the original photographer.

Thank you for your collaboration.
