Under the 'Principle of Reciprocity' in International Law, USA decided on 5 June 2020 to relax its ban on Chinese flights entering the country

In this Consumer Rights Beyond Boundaries Blog piece (in Chinese), Dr Ying Yu discusses why the aviation industry is not the main casualty of anti-competitive practices and policies with regards to international travelling such as restrictions on flights entering certain designated countries. Instead, one must realise that it is the regular consumers who have already purchased airfare, especially international travellers and overseas students, that will be the real victims of such policies.

Dr Yu is Research Fellow of Law, Justice and Society at the University Oxford. She leads the 'Best Practices of Consumer Redress' project in UNCTAD's Research Partnerships Platform and the Consumer Rights Beyond Boundaries (CRBB) programme.
